Angel Reese is nearing a potential suspension from WNBA play due to her growing number of technical fouls.
During Sunday’s matchup between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky, both Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark were sidelined. The Fever came out on top, securing a 93-78 victory and improving their season record to 14-12.
Reese, a two-time WNBA All-Star, currently has seven technical fouls. League rules mandate that reaching eight technicals results in an automatic one-game suspension. As a result, she’s now just one call away from facing disciplinary action.
In an attempt to avoid this outcome, the Chicago Sky are reportedly seeking to have some of Reese’s technical fouls overturned by the league, which could help her avoid suspension as the second half of the season unfolds.
Sky head coach Tyler Marsh addressed the matter following Sunday’s game.
“We’ve done our part in trying to appeal a couple of those calls, both during and after the games, but ultimately it’s up to the league’s decision,” Marsh stated. “It’s part of the emotion and intensity of the sport—it’s tough to rein in that kind of passion in the heat of the moment.”
A suspension would be a tough loss for the Sky, as Reese has been a major contributor on the court. She’s averaging 13.8 points, 12.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.4 steals per game this season and was recently named to the WNBA All-Star team for the second consecutive year.
Chicago has had a tough season so far, with a current record of 7-18. The team will need to rally in the final stretch to keep their playoff hopes alive—and keeping Reese in the lineup is critical to that effort.
Avoiding a suspension could prove vital for the Sky’s postseason aspirations, and all eyes are now on how the league responds to the team’s appeal.
