Pakistan cricket team captain Salman Ali Agha, speaking after the T20I series loss to Bangladesh on Thursday, cited poor execution of plans as the primary reason for the defeat. He also pointed out that the pitches used during the series were not ideal for preparing for upcoming major tournaments like the Asia Cup and the World Cup.
“These pitches were not suitable for our preparations. I don’t think we’ll encounter such conditions in the Asia Cup or World Cup,” Salman said during the post-match press conference. “It’s true we didn’t perform to the level we should have in this series.”
He acknowledged the team’s shortcomings, especially their inability to implement strategies effectively. “Execution was where we fell short. We had our plans in place, but we couldn’t carry them out as intended,” he admitted. “Regardless of the conditions, our responsibility is to perform and adapt.”
Salman emphasized that the team is still in a development phase but believes progress is being made. “We’re in the process of building a strong unit, and I believe we’re headed in the right direction. With time and continued effort, we’ll see improvement,” he said.
Addressing concerns about the team’s inconsistency, Salman admitted it remains an issue. “We know our performance hasn’t been consistent. It’s something we talk about and are actively working on. Consistency is crucial, and we’re committed to achieving it,” he stated.
Regarding his own form as captain, Salman dismissed any criticism and expressed confidence in his leadership. “Since taking on the captaincy, my performance has improved significantly. I’m learning and growing, just like everyone else. Any talk about a decline in my form is completely unfounded,” he concluded.
