Luis Díaz is on the verge of joining Bayern Munich from Liverpool in a transfer that could reach €75 million (£65.5 million). The 28-year-old Colombian winger is expected to leave Liverpool’s training base in Tokyo after being granted permission to undergo a medical with the German giants.
Bayern have pursued Díaz for some time and were ultimately compelled to meet Liverpool’s valuation. Díaz had expressed interest in a move as early as the summer of 2024. Despite making multiple contract offers to retain him, Liverpool have chosen to part ways with the former Porto player—who joined in January 2022—as part of a reshuffle of their attacking lineup.
Supporters in Hong Kong were seen holding up shirts of Diogo Jota in tribute to the Portuguese forward during Liverpool’s match against AC Milan on Saturday.
Díaz did not feature in Liverpool’s 4-2 pre-season loss to Milan, a decision manager Arne Slot confirmed was related to the ongoing transfer situation. “In Lucho’s case, yes,” said Slot. “There’s been a lot of speculation, and I can’t say much more. He’s been training well, but we’ve chosen not to play him for now.”
Liverpool initially paid €45 million plus add-ons to sign Díaz, with €4 million in performance-related bonuses fulfilled, bringing the total fee to €49 million. He is expected to leave the squad within 24 hours as the team prepares to face Yokohama F. Marinos on Wednesday.
The club is actively generating funds this summer, having completed major deals for Florian Wirtz—who had also attracted interest from Bayern—and Hugo Ekitike. Additional signings are being explored, with continued speculation around Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, who is reportedly open to a move. Darwin Núñez, another potential departure, missed the Milan match as well, though Slot attributed that to fitness issues.
Once the Díaz deal is finalized, Liverpool will have generated close to £190 million in player sales since Richard Hughes took over as sporting director in June 2024.
Speaking from Hong Kong, Slot said he remains confident in his defensive options despite the recent sale of Jarell Quansah. Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guéhi has emerged as a potential target to fill that gap.
“I’m not too concerned about centre-back depth,” Slot explained. “Ryan [Gravenberch] showed today he can fill in there—he’s done it before, even though we see him more as a No. 6. Wataru Endo can also cover that role, and Joe Gomez only has a minor injury.”
New signings Jeremie Frimpong, left-back Milos Kerkez, and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili featured in the second half of the friendly against Milan, while Wirtz made his first start.
João Félix to Join Al-Nassr from Chelsea
João Félix is preparing to depart Chelsea for Saudi club Al-Nassr in a transfer worth up to £44 million, with an initial payment of £26.2 million. Félix originally arrived at Chelsea in August 2024 from Atlético Madrid, having previously been on loan at the club in the 2022–23 season. He later went on loan to Milan in January after only three Premier League starts.
The 25-year-old Portuguese attacker—once the subject of a €127 million move to Atlético in 2019—has struggled to make an impact in England, netting just five goals in 28 appearances. Despite Chelsea winning the Conference League and the Club World Cup this summer, Félix played a minimal role. The signings of Liam Delap, João Pedro, and Jamie Gittens have further limited his chances under manager Enzo Maresca.
At Al-Nassr, Félix will team up with Cristiano Ronaldo. Both players are represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes.
Everton Make Move for Bayern’s Adam Aznou
Everton boss David Moyes has confirmed the club has submitted a bid for Bayern Munich’s young left-back Adam Aznou. The 19-year-old, who previously developed at Barcelona, has been on Everton’s radar as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of their debut season in a new stadium.
“We’ve made an offer,” Moyes said. “Whether it’s accepted or finalized, we’ll see. He’s a promising young left-back.”
Following a 3-0 pre-season defeat to Bournemouth, Moyes reiterated the need for experienced recruits. “Ideally, we’re targeting players over 25 with Premier League experience,” he said.
Speaking earlier on the Men In Blazers show, Moyes revealed the squad still requires “nine or ten” additions. He later clarified at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey: “We’ve already signed three, so realistically, we’re probably still looking at bringing in five or six more.”
