Worcestershire County Cricket Club is pleased to confirm the signing of Pakistan international leg-spinner Usama Mir on a three-year T20 contract.
Under the agreement, Mir will join the Pears as an overseas player for the 2026 season. From 2027 onward, he will be eligible as a homegrown player under residency rules.
At 29 years old, Mir brings valuable international experience to New Road, having represented Pakistan in all formats of the game. He has also featured in major global T20 tournaments, including the Big Bash League, Pakistan Super League, and The Hundred.
Renowned for his precision and consistent wicket-taking, Mir will strengthen Worcestershire’s spin attack and offer critical depth and experience to the squad.
In the first year of his deal, he will play as part of the club’s overseas player allocation. In the second and third years, he will qualify as a local player, aligning with Worcestershire’s long-term strategic approach to squad development.
Worcestershire CEO Ashley Giles expressed his excitement about the signing, noting the long-term nature of the deal as a key factor.
“We’re very excited to bring Usama on board. He’s a top-level cricketer who has the skill set and mentality to succeed in the T20 format,” Giles said. “His transition to a homegrown player by 2027 offers us significant flexibility and shows our intent to build a strong, sustainable squad.”
Head Coach Alan Richardson also emphasized the importance of the signing.
“This is a major move for us. Worcestershire has a proud legacy of attracting top overseas talent, and Usama fits that tradition perfectly,” Richardson said. “His arrival signals our ambition to compete at a high level while continuing to invest in our youth development programs.”
